In this course, we will dive into the world of sound design, learn the fundamentals of synthesis, and work professionally with virtual instruments. You will understand how to create and edit your own sounds, explore different synthesis types like subtractive, FM, wavetable, granular, and learn how to use effects and sound design techniques effectively.

Additionally, we will explore popular virtual instruments and learn how to integrate them creatively into our productions. The course is delivered in an engaging manner, using various synthesizers, virtual instruments, and plugins, with hands-on exercises where we create unique sounds together.

What will we learn in each session?

Session 1: Synthesis Basics & Synth Components

• Synth structure: oscillators, filters, envelopes (ADSR), amplifier (VCA)
• Basic waveforms (sine, saw, square, triangle) and advanced ones
• Types of synthesizers: Subtractive, FM, Granular, Wavetable, Modal, Harmonic
• Exploring different synths and analyzing their similarities and differences
• Using ADSR envelopes and LFOs for basic modulation
• Filters as a key sound-shaping tool
• Practice: Creating different sounds using various techniques

Session 2: Synthesis Techniques & Sound Creation

• Continuing modulation topic and LFO usage
• Advanced envelopes (creative uses of ADSR and MSEG)
• Designing pads, basses, leads, and plucks
• Combining multiple waveforms to create complex sounds
• Using effects for sound shaping (reverb, delay, distortion, chorus)
• Practical exercises: Creating original presets

Session 3: Advanced Techniques & Virtual Synthesizers

• Working with sequencers and arpeggiators
• Advanced sound layering techniques
• Working with noise in sound design
• Exploring different virtual instruments and Kontakt libraries (including UVI Falcon)
