RECORDED WITH A HUGE ATTITUDE
Hollywood Pop Brass was created for one simple reason - there's nothing else out on the market that instantaneously gives you that fiery, punchy pop brass sound that made songs like Uptown Funk such mega hits. Producers Doug Rogers and Nick Phoenix recorded one of the top horn sections in the industry in EastWest's famous Hollywood studios, and brought in multiple Grammy award-winning engineer Moogie Canazio to help craft a sound that's larger than life. Moogie Canazio has recorded music icons Ray Charles, Sarah Vaughan, Sergio Mendes, Diana Ross, Luis Miguel, Michael Buble, Melody Gardot, and many more.
TIGHT AND DYNAMIC
Hollywood Pop Brass was designed to capture the feel of a live stage, with all the raw energy of live musicians and that blaring pop sound you hear on your favorite records. It features a 4-piece brass ensemble for all multi-sampled articulations that includes 2 trumpets, a trombone, and a saxophone that alternates between a baritone, tenor, and alto saxophone depending on the note range. These incredible sounding multi-sampled ensemble sections were recorded in the famous Studio One at EastWest Studios, "the best brass recording room in the world" according to Michael Jackson engineer Bruce Swedien.
A 5-piece ensemble was used for all phrases and licks, including 2 trumpets, a trombone and 2 saxophones that alternate between a baritone, tenor, and alto saxophone depending on the instrument voicing. These stylized phrases and licks were recorded in Studio Two, a favorite of many Latin artists going all the way back to Tijuana Brass by Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66. The phrases will simply blow you away with how easily they slide right into your track, and cover many genres from pure pop to rock, funk, soul, and many distinctive rhythms and melodies from the Latin world.
SUSTAIN
Fast, medium and long crescendos, sustain accent, crescendo and diminuendo. Use the "xfde" versions of instruments that use Mod Wheel (CC1) to cross-fade between 2 dynamic layers to take complete control of the performance’s energy. This collection is ideal for creating chord swells, increasing the brightness and tension at a rate perfectly tailored to the composition.
SHORT
A variety of punchy, strong articulations with a short duration: marcato, stabs, staccato, and staccato repetitions. Each include round robin variations, use velocity-sensitivity to control dynamics and Expression (CC 11) to control overall loudness.
EFFECTS
Special techniques like falls, rips, growls and trills. All but growls contain multiple round robin variations so you get a slightly different execution every time. These are perfect for crafting a hard-hitting ending to a phrase or when you need to mock up a solo part.
LEGATO
True legato intervals when two notes overlap, for every interval up to and including an octave in either direction. When playing disconnected (non-legato), a sustain layer will playback, giving each phrase a natural feel. When you need to create lyrical melodies, this will be your choice for a seamless and expressive performance.
MOD COMBO
Combines multiple articulations, using the Mod Wheel (CC 1) to select between them. A ‘VS’ (velocity-sensitive) instrument named HPB Shorts VS MOD.ewi alternatively uses velocity to select between articulations and Mod Wheel (CC 1) to determine dynamics, giving you even more real-time flexibility.
PHRASES
Phrases recorded with multiple transpositions and mapped across the keyboard, perfect for a wide variety of key signatures. When used in the right places, these pre-recorded performances offer added realism since the musicians’ unique performances were captured in their entirety.
LICKS
Short and punchy, the position of the Mod Wheel determines which chord will play back. Each lick has 2 round robin variations performed at 120 bpm, falling into 1 of 6 chord types, allowing you to play live-recorded chords for added authenticity
KEYSWITCH
Multiple articulations combined into a single instrument, using keyswitches to activate the desired articulation. This collection offers the maximum level of flexibility when you need multiple articulations back to back.
MIXES
You have complete control over the individual levels of each instrument mic in the section, recorded with classics like the Royer R-121, Neumann U67, AKG C12A and more. If you want one in particular to shine, or to rearrange the ensemble in the stereo field, dial it in exactly the way you want it.
WHAT WILL YOU CREATE?
Hollywood Pop Brass is your one-stop shop for bold horn lines you can drop into your next hit song.
